Something feels terribly wrong. The sunlight doesn't feel right on my skin. My mother says the sun isn't what it used to be. I question if that is really my mother or a C.A.R.P. The new models are nearly undetectable. The rumors, which pass by word of mouth in town, are that the new C.A.R.P.'s tweak if exposed to white radio noise. The space between two stations. My "mother" passes this test but something in my gut tells me the result is unproven.
The sun is making me sick. It never used to. At times I feel like maybe I've been the one replaced in the dead of night. Something's not right. I feel different somehow. There are strangers in these homes where my friends used to live. There's no one here to play with anymore. Chuck threw out all of his old pipes and tobacco bags. There were dozens and dozens. Why can't he stay? Why can't I leave with the others?
